Terms of use: the DecaData API

These terms apply to data bought from the DecaData API at api.decadata.io, and to the free data it serves. "We" and "DecaData" mean DecaData Corporation; "you" means whoever requests or pays for the data, including any software or agent acting for you. By requesting data from the API, or paying for it, you accept these terms.

1. The data

The API serves company-level sales and units from Odyssey Lite, measured from point-of-sale transactions at eight US retailers and mapped to the company that owned each brand at the time. It contains no brand-level data.

  • A day goes on sale seven days after it happens (T+7). History is never restated: a day, once published, does not change.
  • Some days have no data, such as Christmas Day, when the stores are closed. The coverage endpoint shows where each company's data starts and ends.
  • The panel of stores changes over time. Every row carries the panel's store count for that day so you can adjust for it.

2. Your licence

When you pay for a response, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the data in it for your own internal research and analysis. Data from the free endpoints is licensed on the same terms.

You may:

  • use the data in your own analysis, models and investment research;
  • share conclusions, charts and figures derived from the data, provided they don't let someone reconstruct the data itself.

You may not:

  • redistribute, resell, sublicense or publish the data, in whole or in part, whether as delivered or reformatted;
  • use the data to build or supply a product or service that offers it, or substantially the same data, to others;
  • combine purchases made through several wallets, accounts or agents to get around the purchase limits in section 5.

If you want to use the data in a product, or share it more widely, an Odyssey Lite subscription or a separate licence may cover it: contact us.

3. Identifying marks

Each response carries a mark that identifies the purchase it was sold in. As part of that mark, figures may differ by a very small amount, such as one cent of sales, from the same figures sold in another response. The mark does not affect the use of the data for analysis. We may use it to identify the source of any copy of the data that we find elsewhere. You may not remove or alter the mark, or try to.

4. Prices and payment

  • The price of a request is the one the API quotes for it, through the quote endpoint or in its 402 Payment Required response. Prices can change; a request is charged at the price quoted for it.
  • Payment is in USDC on the Base network, over the x402 protocol. One payment buys one response.
  • We collect a payment only after the data for it has been read. If a request fails before the data is delivered, the payment is not collected.
  • Sometimes a payment is accepted but its settlement isn't confirmed straight away. In that case we deliver the data and confirm the payment afterwards. If a payment is never received, the licence for that response does not take effect.
  • Because the data is delivered at once, payments are not refundable, except where the law requires it or where we failed to deliver what was paid for. Contact us within 30 days, quoting the receipt.
  • You are responsible for your wallet, its keys and any network fees, and for any taxes that apply to your purchase.

5. Limits

A single request covers at most three years. One wallet can buy at most 50 different companies in 30 days. We may change these limits, and may refuse, limit or stop sales to any wallet or user where we reasonably suspect a breach of these terms. We review purchasing patterns across wallets to enforce these limits and the licence.

6. No investment advice; no warranty

The data is information, not investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell anything. It is provided "as is". We take care over it, but we don't warrant that it is complete, accurate, or fit for any particular purpose, or that the API will always be available. You are responsible for how you use the data and for the decisions you make with it.

7. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue or opportunity, arising from the data or the API. Our total liability to you for any purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it.

8. If you breach these terms

If you breach these terms, your licence ends, and you must delete the data concerned. We may stop serving you and seek any remedy the law allows, including for any data redistributed or resold.

9. Privacy

To run the API we record, for each paid request, the paying wallet's address, what was bought, the price, the receipt and the payment's transaction. We count API use with Matomo, using a one-way hash of your IP address rather than the address itself. We keep these records to provide and enforce the service, and don't sell them.

10. Changes and governing law

We may change these terms. Changes apply to purchases made after the new terms are posted here; the version in force when you paid applies to that purchase. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and disputes are subject to the state and federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
