CPI Tracking: Announcement

A combination of factors has put inflation back in the news. In the background we had continued to monitor it but had not published it, partly at the request of paying customers who wanted to keep this signal private. Recently, a combination of factors has turned the spot light onto inflation again. It began with Bird Flu and an egg-shortage. This has cascaded into other sub-components outside of the Meat, Poultry, Fish, & Eggs subcomponent. Along with the impact of tarrifs on food we import from Mexico and Canada as well as a faltering economy, we have decided to resume publication.

Methodology

Using the Odyssey retail point of sale dataset we have constructed some estimated CPI forecasts based on a simple and robust filtering and scoring methodology. We plan on releasing category and brand level insights bi-monthly.
